What is latex paint?

Paint that can be thinned and cleaned up with water; used as a base for emulsion paints.

What is an acrylic paint?

Synthetic resin that is present in most latex paints. It helps interior paints in adhesion, coverage and scrub ability.

Can you apply latex over oil base?

Generally, no. If the oil base is flat, it will adhere, but if the oil base has a sheen- no.

Can you apply oil over latex?

Yes, interior and exterior.

Why will oil base white paint turn yellow?

The alkyd resins in oil based paint cause the gradual yellowing of white and off-white colors.

What can be done to paint latex over oil base paint?

A barrier coat of oil base flat primer on interior or exterior surfaces should be applied. Also, you can sand and “rough up” the surface. This will aid adhesion of the latex.

Is there a paint that is guaranteed not to mildew?

No. Mildew is a living organism that can feed on all types of surfaces (except zinc and metal). You can kill mildew by washing with a mixture of household bleach and water (1 qt. bleach to 1 gallon water).

Can you paint over mildew?

Yes, you can, but it’s not advisable. Mildew will grow into the finish coat of paint. The surface has to be cleaned with a chlorine and water solution before painting.

Can you tell me why some estimates seem high while other seem so low?

Most of the cost of a paint job is in the labor. The price is determined by the amount of surface preparation, the attention to detail, and quality desired. We would be happy to review, in detail, our specifications and paint preparations.

The last painter we hired would work for a few days, and then would be gone for a couple of days; always starting and stopping. Will you stay on the job once you begin?

Yes. We’ll stay with the project and work until you painting is completed (weather permitting) until you painting is completed. Our goal is to have the same crew work on you job from start to finish.

Yes, we will be happy to provide reference of similar jobs completed.

Do you carry liability insurance?

Yes, we carry general liability and workers comp insurance. We would be happy to provide the information, when requested.

Are you certified?

Yes, Gulfside Painting is certified in painting and waterproofing.

Do you use top quality paint?

Yes, we use premium quality products from all of the major suppliers. However, the brand of paint we use can be influenced by other factors including customer preference, the nature of the project, and other bid specifications.

Do you have a warranty?

Yes, for commercial jobs a 7-year labor and material, non prorated warranty is issued on all coated masonry surfaces. For residential jobs, warranties from 1-3 years, and may vary from job to job.

Do you protect our furnishings and clean up after you are done?

Yes. Floors, furniture and areas that are not supposed to be painted will be protected. On completion we will pick up and clean up to return you home to the condition that we found it.

Will my job be completed by experienced painters?

Yes. Our painters have a minimum of 5 years experience, and have received adequate training in the tasks that they are assigned.

Can you tell me what I need to do in order to get ready for the painters?

Yes. The only items we ask the customer to move are the small knick-knack type items and pictures, unless otherwise directed. We come expecting to move furniture, window treatments, and switch plates upon completion of the painting we will place all items we moved back in their correct location.

Will you come back and take care of any touch up issues after the job is completed?

Yes, if there are any areas that need to be touched up we will be more than happy to come back and touch up any affected areas. Punch out is done on every job once completed.
